Epy Quizon plays the young Dolphy for the second time

Jeffrey “Epy” Quizon has already played his dad, Comedy King Dolphy in the movie Markova: Comfort Gay back in 2000. He is young Dolphy again in the movie Nobody, Nobody, but Juan, an official entry in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) from RVQ Productions, Joe Aldeguer Productions and Kaizz Ventures Inc.

Nobody, Nobody but Juan is about Juan (Dolphy), a Filipino senior citizen living in a nursing home owned and run by his son Mario (played by Eric Quizon) and Mario’s wife Allana (played by G Toengi). Juan misses his life and friends in the Philippines and through the movie’s flashback scenes, it is revealed that Juan used to perform in “bodabil” (vaudeville, a theater performance made up of separate and unrelated acts in one show). Epy is the young Juan in the flashback scenes.

“I have played a lot of roles for my dad’s films. This has been my second [time] playing him in a movie,” Jeffrey said in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) through his Facebook account.
Although the Comedy King, in real life is Epy’s father, he confessed it is not easy for him to play the same role the Philippine’s greatest and most respected comedian is also playing.

“It is very hard to portray a role being played by a master,” Epy said. “You can just imagine the intimidation. The main preparation is to overcome that intimidation and go out and do your job.”

Dolphy’s partner Zsa Zsa Padilla has already expressed her disapproval on the proposed Dolphy bio-flick, but if ever the project pushes through, does that mean Epy will automatically play as his dad again?
“If the director, writer and producers agree that I should play the role, then I would gladly accept. But I believe my father does not want his bio-flick as of the moment,” informed Epy.

His brother Eric Quizon successfully made the transition from actor to director, so are we going to see a “Directed by Epy Quizon” in a movie credit soon, too?

“I just directed a short film called Akala. With Joel Torre, Ronnie Lazaro and Rez Cortez,” revealed the 36-year-old actor who will celebrate his birthday this coming January 23. “Who knows, if I get the right inspiration and passion then probably this coming year.”

On a personal note, his Facebook status says he is engaged. To whom is he engaged with and when is the wedding?

“I have been engaged with Rosanna Escudero [environmentalist, Earthdance member and peace activist] since before she gave birth to our daughter Misha but parenthood came first and the wedding was put on hold. Hopefully, this year,” Epy said.

Finally, what is his message to all the people who will watch Nobody, Nobody but Juan?

“I sure hope that this movie brings fun and entertainment to those who watch it. Need I expect more?”

Nobody, Nobody but Juan will be shown starting December 25, 2009 in cinemas nationwide.
