Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera give Kris Aquino and James Yap the benefit of their experience
Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez last sung in a concert together at the Araneta Coliseum in 2009. Once again they will sing of love in a concert called One Amore Time to be held at the SMX Convention Center this coming Valentine’s Day.
What’s different about this from last year’s concert is that “this one is playing with a whole concept of a soap opera which really is our life story,” Martin revealed on Startalk yesterday, January 16. “So the music will be a little bit more Latino-inspired.”
Pops added, “Mayroon siyang teleserye feel and we get to explain through songs—every teleserye, di ba, may mga sad moments at kontrabida moments. With the help of Jon Santos, I think it will be very possible since madami siyang gagawin roles.”
What have they noticed about each other since their last concert?
“I like the original Pops,” Martin declared, “but the eyes are more sparkly and her cheekbones are more defined. I like her weight now—she’s not too thin—the lips are still biteable and she’s very sexy now.”
Pops, on the other hand, looked at Martin and said, “He looks pagod now. Really.”
INSIGHT ON KRIS AQUINO AND JAMES YAP. Martin and Pops both gave their insights on the problems now facing Kris Aquino and James Yap. Having experienced similar issues, the ex-couple had a lot to say.
“Looking back,” started Pops, “sometimes naiisip ko baka kalahati ng nabasa ko na masakit, e hindi naman pala totoo. It is really a challenge to have a successful marriage. Nowadays it is different. Napapansin ko, lalo na sa celebrities, e, it is a must to really come out in the open and say how it is.”
She added, “Kakausapin ko lang siya, yung guy, not the girl and I would wanna know straight from him why she called because I would want to give the guy a chance to explain and reason out.”
Martin followed it up by saying, “Once that she has that talk with that guy, would she believe what I say? She should either want to believe it or not want to believe it. If you don’t, you should go and find out.”
If he were in James’ shoes, what would Martin do?
“I think I would make it more obvious and share that text or call with her [Kris],” said Martin.
What advice would they give to couples in the same situation?
“You really have to talk,” said Pops. “Maski masakit dapat maging honest sa isa’t isa. Ang hindi namin nagawa noong araw is to be really honest with each other.”
“That’s basic but it’s not easy,” Martin agreed. “I was dishonest and unfaithful and I could not tell her. My advice—even if there is no such thing as a perfect relationship—if you don’t want to get burnt, stay out of the fire.”
