As people kept on speculating about Derek Ramsay and Angelica Panganiban’s controversial relationship, the hunk actor reiterated that verbal abuse and third party issue are not the reasons why they recently had a rift. “Ito na lang masasabi ko, there’s no perfect relationship and we’re two different people. We don’t get along with everything. Our beliefs and values are different since we’re from two different types of cultural background. So there’s stuff like that. We have our share of problems. But the thing is we find ways to solve the problems that we encounter. And that’s what were doing now,” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN.com right after his contract-signing with the network.

Derek also admitted that he got scared that they won’t be able to mend their differences during their time apart. Fortunately, it was what they needed for them to have a fresh perspective about their commitment to each other. “Sabi ko nga nung tinanong ako kung ano ang tunay na pagmamahal, you think of your partner’s well being or iniisip mo yung happiness ng taong yun even if it means na ‘wag ka na. Kahit na gusto mo, ‘wag mo na patuloy yung relationship. Yeah, pumapasok sa isip ko yung mga bagay na yun pero when we take our own time na pag-isipan yung mga problema namin, we always come to the solution na ayusin natin.”

As to the recent reports that he’s constantly subjecting Angelica to verbal abuse, Derek was quick to deny the issue, claiming that his mom raised him to be really respectful of other people especially women. “Never. You can ask Angel. Dig up the files and lagi ko sinasabi na ako yung taong gusto ko may tamang place at may tamang oras para pag-usapan ang isang bagay. Kasi kapag mainit pa ang ulo mo you’d say things that you don’t want to say and that’s what I don’t wanna happen between us. I always take my time. Ako yung tahimik lang. Yun ang nagiging problema ni Angel sa akin kasi tahimik lang ako.”

The 30-year-old further stressed that neither is Angelica the nagger type of girlfriend. “The same thing with Angel. She never raises her voice at me, she never yells or screams. Umiiyak lang. Haha! And that’s also the thing that I am trying to teach Angel. That you can’t cry over everything. Ayun, we’re helping each other out. We’re learning things. And all those rumors na ewan ko kung bakit lumalabas, there’s no truth to that,” he reiterated.
